Remebering 9/11 - A Prayer For Our Nation

As we remember both those who died on 9/11, in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and in that field in Pennsylvania and those who have served our country and died in defense of Liberty, I would like to offer up this prayer by Bill Graham for our nation. My good friend Richard Hucklebridge sent me this timely prayer and I wanted to share it with my readers.

In a day when God is being voted down and booed at the Democratic National Convention I think it important to remember we are a God blessed Nation. Our existence is a miracle and our blessings a gift. Through out our history Divine Providence has guided our fortunes and sadly now many turn their back on God and deny his existence. In Psalms the Bible says "The fool has said in his heart, there is no GOD...."

Let us not forget from where our blessings flow as we lift up this prayer:

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable... We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and Set us free. Amen!'

  1. getting a little political kinda cheapens the setiment

    1. Had nothing to do with POLITICS just stating FACT

    2. Ed, I agree. Suggesting that dems at the DNC "booed and voted down" God in a preface to a prayer is really politicizing God and religion. Our country is pretty evenly split dems and reps... many from both parties practicing christians. September 11 is the perfect time to come together and remember all that has happened and pray together. Some may even look to religous leaders for guidance but when that religous leader politicizes prayer it certainly cheapens the sentiment.
We live in a time were we can choose our news and the facts are so scewed it's hard to know what or who to believe anymore. I personally agree with our founding fathers and like to keep my politics out of my church and vice versa.

    3. Totally and completely disagree with you JR...

    4. I totally agree with Scott, it was about God not politics.

Thank you Scott for sharing this with us. It is so true and a moving prayer.

    5. agree with jr..better stated

  2. I hope we never forget that 9/11 was brought on by
politics and religion. The two are intertwined whether
we like it or not. The people that brought those planes
down were driven by politics and religion. Our nation was founded on the principle that religion would be free
from influence by politics. But politics has consequences and for over the life of our country we
have struggled to maintain a balance. Without both, the
scale may tip in either direction with bad results.
Make no mistake this country in a fight for its very
existance. Forces with-in and with-out mean to see its
end. And without our firm belief in God to guide the
leaders, I am afraid for our future. No, Let's get back
    to Bigfoot.

  3. it was politics but its your site and at least you remembered it...lets go into those woods as independents..no offense joe as I do enjoy your site

    1. No offense taken, we all should be able to express our opinions, and disagree with one another, that is what America is all about...
